Review: For the past three years, Juniata has seen the class of 2017 grow up and discover who they are. However, when watching this year’s Jr. Class Play, these kids are unrecognizable. Each student embraces their character, bringing consistency within the play. Led by the talented Mrs. Hummel, this cast is definitely one to watch. The cast chemistry is so strong, thanks to the student directors’, Brenna and Sarah’s, guidance. Mrs. Hummel did a fantastic job at casting the roles. The humorous script and twisting plot line captivates the audience. Not only is the script well written but the way the actors portray their roles makes you want to watch it again. So come out Monday, Nov. 23rd to see all their hard work pay off. Congrats to Mrs. Hummel on another successful play! We should all be proud of what they have accomplished.

Book Review: The 5th Wave by Rick Yancy

The 5th Wave by Rick Yancy is about an alien spaceship that came to Earth to kill all humans. The Others (aliens) have come and started to take the human race out in waves. The first wave took out all objects that use electricity. The second wave caused earthquakes and tsunamis, killing four billion people. A virus called the Red Death, or the Blood Plague, was the third wave that killed 97% of the human race. In the fourth wave, they made humans not trust one another. They caused humanity to become almost extinct. The Others are smart, definitely smarter than any human being, and they’re waiting to take over the Earth.
I really liked this book. It was action packed and thrilling, if at sometimes confusing. Even during the hard-to-follow parts, I still didn’t want to put the book down.

Book Review: The Perfect Shot by Marie Alphin

The Perfect Shot has a very mixed genre, being one-third murder mystery, one-third sports fiction, and one-third American history, justice system, and nonfiction. The book is told through the eyes of Brian Hammlet, who is the captain and point guard for his high school basketball team. The story begins with Brian’s girlfriend Amanda Daine, who was supposedly murdered by her. Brian, still filled with pain and guilt the next year, decides that the only way he can cope with his loss is to focus on basketball and nothing else. That is until Brian’s history teacher, Mr. Fortner, randomly assigns him to do a project right before the play-offs and he has to do it with his best friend’s sworn enemy Todd Pollian. It wasn’t the project that necessary irked Brian but, the subject being the Leo Frank case with the murder of Mary Phagan. After they began working on the project he quickly realizes working with Todd wasn’t so bad after all. He is also unnerved by the similarities between the case with Amanda’s father and the Leo case. During the chaotic situations in his everyday life Brian’s best friend Julius manages to get arrested and he finds out that evidence has arose possibility allowing Amanda’s father to proven not guilty. Overall the book is great and draws your interest the entire time, but some topics are very controversial. Pick up “The Perfect Shot” to find out how Brian makes it through this insane time in his life.
